Chiva Africa
Since 2004, CHIVA AFRICA has been helping save children with HIV in South Africa. Our teams of UK Health professionals train and mentor local medical staff Working on the Frontlines of the AIDS EPIDEMIC
HIV need not be a death sentence. with our help, the youngest victims of the epidemic Will live longer and healthier lives.
Our Work so Far
In 2004, there were only 3,322 children received life-saving ARV treatment. Today more than 40,000 children are on treatment as a direct result of professional and effective collaborations between CHIVA Africa and local colleagues.
KwaZulu-Natal
- 149 multidisciplinary team visits - amounting to an individual commitment of 438 working weeks.
- Number of site visits: district hospitals: 330, primary health care clinics: 190, NGOs/orphanages/schools: 68.
- Teaching sessions reached 13,471 delegates comprising doctors and nurses (57%), allied health care professionals (35%) and administrators, managers and community workers (8%).
Eastern Cape
- 12 multidisciplinary team visits - amounting to an individual commitment of 35 working weeks.
- Number of site visits: district hospitals: 21, primary health care clinics: 8, resource centres/ conferences: 4.
- Teaching sessions reached 800 delegates comprising doctors and nurses (63%), allied health care professionals (22%) and administrators, managers and community workers (15%).
North West Province
- 8 multidisciplinary team visits amounting to an individual commitment of 18 working weeks.
- Number of site visits: district hospitals: 12, primary health care clinics: 11, NGOs/hospices: 4.
- Teaching sessions reached 517 delegates comprising doctors and nurses (60%), allied health care professionals (36%) and administrators, managers and community workers (4%).
