Juliet Houghton

Programme Director

 

Juliet has overall responsibility for operational management. This includes identifyng healthcare sites requiring support, building good relationships and facilitates the matching of healthcare sites with volunteers, maintaining effective partnerships with KZN Department of Health staff, attending networking events to promote CHIVA Africa.

In addition, Juliet provides regular support and training to health care professionals across KwaZulu Natal, the Eastern Cape and Northwest Province.

Juliet is a registered general nurse (RGN) and a registered sick children's nurse (RSCN), with post-graduate qualifications in tropical nursing (dip), social anthropology of childhood & child development (MSc), and is an independent nurse prescriber. She has been working in HIV care for 19 years in government and NGO settings in the UK, Eastern Europe, North America and Southern Africa.

 

Zameka Sobantu

Programme Coordinator

 

Zameka joined CHIVA Africa in January 2011. Her main responsibilities include inter alia; identification of healthcare facility needs through Annual Facility Review, maintaining relationship with the existing sites, recruitment of KZN volunteers, compiling quarterly reports, and assists with scheduling for the volunteers.

Zameka also attends meetings with Departments of Health and provides support and teaching to health care professionals in KZN.

Zameka is a Registered Nurse, Midwife, Community Health Nurse and Nurse Administrator and obtained Honours in Bachelor of Arts in Nursing at the University of South Africa with post graduate courses in HIV and Mentoring at Middlesex University in London.

She has extensive experience in HIV both at local and international level. She held a post of a Clinical Research Nurse at Royal Free Hospital; one of the largest Research Centres in Europe, before joining CHIVA Africa.
