Our work in the UK

What are we doing?

Key to our model of work is to provide sustainable support which outlives our physical presence in the province. To achieve this, we are not only committed to training current healthcare professionals, but to train them to become future trainers.

We are developing comprehensive paediatric teaching materials, consistent with South African guidelines and relevant to resource-limited settings, for use by our volunteers and wider personnel. This will result in mass dissemination of information.

The resources are the cumulative work of our volunteers who have trialled and adapted the tools according to their experiences in the field.

How are we doing it?

Each health care group is headed by key coordinators who are responsible for the review, standardisation and organisation of all teaching packages and their amalgamation with existing resources.

Due to the extent of this work, the formations of professional networks working to develop resources for us, have evolved.

These networks meet regularly to discuss core curriculum topics, share responsibility for producing presentations and worksheets and to evaluate and amend current resources.

What can you do to help?

Contributing to these networks and the development of resources is an invaluable way of helping without committing to spending time in South Africa.
